What’s in a field-name? Exhibition and talk in Kirkcudbright explores the hidden histories of the Galloway landscape.
The volunteer led Borgue Fieldnames Project has mapped over 1000 fieldnames in the parish and explored their historical and cultural significance. Now, a display of the project’s findings can be viewed at The Stewartry Museum in Kirkcudbright, and an expert talk on fieldnames by Michael Ansell will take place on Wednesday 25th October.
The project gained widespread recognition for its innovative approach to improving regional understanding of field names and their many meanings. The Stewartry Museum will host the display of the Project’s information panels, together with a small selection of artefacts that reflect the agricultural and social life of Borgue over the last 200 years.
