Meetings

The Society meets fortnightly at 7.30pm on Friday evenings between October and March (with a break over the Christmas/New Year period) for a series of illustrated lectures of historical, archaeological and natural history interest. Many of the lectures have a strong local theme and one is delivered by a Society member. All meetings, unless otherwise indicated, are held The Bridge, Glasgow Road, Dumfries DG2 9AW and refreshments are available afterwards. The meetings are also available live via Zoom and a recording can be viewed on the Members Only area of this website a few days later. The Society has a reciprocal arrangement with Ayrshire Archaeological and Natural History Society which enables members of both Societies to attend each other’s meetings via Zoom. Ayrshire Archaeological and Natural History Society hold their meetings fortnightly on Thursday evenings over the winter period.

Publications

The Society's Transactions are published annually and members receive these as a benefit of membership. They also have online access to all the published volumes, the latest five issues being denied to non-members.

The Society also publishes or sponsors occasional works related to its activities.

Other activities include the occasional archaelogical dig and occasional outings to places of iterest. Members should keep an eye on the latest news and event sections below for information about these.
